“Again” may be asking for more than the same words.
A familiar story teaches through repetition, and pleasure likes knowing what comes next. No single request tells us what a child means. But when the same person opens the same book, predictability can hold something else: the ending returns, the voice returns, the closeness around them returns.
The story becomes a small rehearsal of trust: something loved can leave, return, and still be there.
