How ILIZIJA Time Is Calculated
ILIZIJA Clock is a computational sundial. It does not begin with twenty-four fixed equal hours. It begins with four astronomical events happening at the selected location and lets time move between them.
The Sun establishes the dial.
For the selected latitude and longitude, ILIZIJA calculates the local astronomical times of sunrise, solar noon, sunset and nadir — the deepest solar point below the horizon.
Those events are assigned fixed ILIZIJA positions:
The astronomical events move through the conventional clock as location and season change. The ILIZIJA anchors do not.
Twelve hours of light. Twelve hours of darkness.
The interval from sunrise to sunset is divided into twelve adaptive ILIZIJA hours. The interval from sunset through solar midnight to the following sunrise contains twelve more.
The number of hours stays constant. Their physical duration changes with the actual length of daylight and darkness.
daylight ILIZIJA hour = (sunset − sunrise) / 12
night ILIZIJA hour = (next sunrise − sunset) / 12
Summer therefore expands the daylight hours and contracts the night hours. Winter does the opposite.
Time is interpolated between astronomical events.
Let t be the present instant. Let R be sunrise, N solar noon, S sunset and M solar midnight. ILIZIJA moves linearly between the surrounding astronomical anchors.
This is why ILIZIJA time remains continuous while the physical length of an hour changes with the sky.
The clock face expands with daylight.
The visible daylight arc is proportional to the actual fraction of the conventional twenty-four-hour day occupied by daylight.
day arc = 360° × (sunset − sunrise) / 24 hours
night arc = 360° − day arc
The face therefore changes shape through the year. It is not a decorative animation. It is a geometric representation of the current solar day.
A new DAY begins at solar midnight.
ILIZIJA does not advance its DAY number at civil midnight. The boundary is local solar midnight — the Sun's nadir, represented by 00 on the ILIZIJA dial.
DAY 1 of a Sun Cycle begins at the exact cycle origin. Every following DAY is counted by the next local solar-midnight crossing.
The annual origin is astronomical, not January 1.
A Sun Cycle runs from one northward equinox to the next — the astronomical instant when the apparent Sun crosses the celestial equator moving north.
ILIZIJA is currently in Sun Cycle 0. The 2027 northward equinox begins Sun Cycle 1. Each following northward equinox begins the next numbered cycle.
The displayed DAY total is not forced to 365 or 366. It is derived from the actual number of local solar-midnight crossings before the next northward equinox.
The equinox is one global instant. Solar midnight depends on longitude. For that reason the displayed total can differ by location.
The Moon keeps a separate rhythm.
A lunar phase cycle begins at new moon, moves through waxing crescent, first quarter, full moon, last quarter and the waning phases, and returns to the next new moon.
This cycle is independent of January, February and the traditional calendar month. Moonrise and moonset are calculated for the selected location and horizon, but they do not determine the ILIZIJA DAY count.
Change the place and the geometry changes.
Latitude and longitude determine the local relationship between the observer, Earth and the Sun. The selected location therefore changes sunrise, solar noon, sunset, solar midnight, daylight length, night length, moonrise and moonset.
A conventional time zone may be used internally to resolve the selected location's civil date, but conventional civil time does not define the ILIZIJA dial.
Independent derivation.
ILIZIJA Clock was independently derived from the observed relationship between light, darkness and the Sun. Its historical parallels were discovered afterward.
The system was not designed as a reconstruction of an ancient clock. Technology made it possible to follow a signal already present in nature and calculate it continuously for any selected location.
The Sun is the clock.
